ASB Raises Approximately $25,000 from the 6th Annual Vision Cup Golf Tournament
Proceeds to Fund Programs and Services to Benefit Individuals Who are Blind or Visually Impaired
Philadelphia, PA, Monday, June 20, 2011--- Associated Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired’s (ASB) 6th Annual Vision Cup Golf Tournament raised approximately $25,000 which will be used to benefit ASB’s clients.
Held on June 14 at The ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, PA , the tournament challenged participants as they played one of the most prestigious and difficult courses in the region. Players included local corporate leaders, golf lovers, and generous supporters from throughout the Delaware Valley who competed for top place prizes.
Played in the shamble format, the team from Turner Construction won first place net followed by a team from Thomas Realty Partners, LLC in second. Glenmede Investment and Wealth Management took home first place gross.
Also included in the days activities were contests including Closest to the Pin, won by Jim Verzella of the Veolia Energy North America team, and Longest Drive, won by Dolan Wilson of NALCO.
Jim Ganter, President of the Mid-Atlantic Blind Golfers Association (MABGA), provided a blind golfer demonstration to players on the 10th Hole. His expertise on the links is well known and most participants let him take their first shot.
“The Vision Cup Golf Tournament allows ASB the opportunity to foster new relationships within our community, strengthen existing ties with our supporters, and increase awareness about what programs and services we offer that benefit individuals who are blind or visually impaired,” said Patricia C. Johnson, ASB President and CEO.
In addition to a day on the links, participants enjoyed a silent auction at the 19th Hole Reception. Items such as a Walt Disney World vacation (airfare, park hopper passes, and hotel stay are included); Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys tickets, a skybox party package for 12 to a Philadelphia 76ers game, Philadelphia Phillies tickets, lavish hotel stays, dinners and more were bid on and won by esteemed guests.
Sponsors of the tournament included: Veolia Energy North America, Glenmede Investment and Wealth Management, Selective Insurance, Thomas Jefferson University & Hospitals, Turner Construction, McGinn Security, Ricoh Business Systems, Thomas Realty Partners LLC, Johnson, Kendall, and Johnson, Inc., and Nalco.
