Radio Information Center for the Blind (RICB) Frequently Asked Questions
A little history
RICB was established in 1974 using a two-year grant from the George W. Nevil Trust, and is now a division of Associated Services for the Blind, Delaware Valley's largest, private, non-profit organization providing direct services to blind and visually impaired individuals. RICB has its studios in the ASB building at 919 Walnut Street and reading is done by more than 120 dedicated volunteers.
How does it work?
RICB uses a sub-carrier signal from WHYY-FM, picked up by a special radio receiver.
How is RICB funded?
RICB obtains funds from listener contributions, service clubs, corporations, foundations, The United Way and from the general public. You can help RICB by making a tax-exempt contribution or by sponsoring a radio for a visually impaired or print-handicapped person.
How can you help?
A $50 per year listener membership donation helps defray operating expenses.
