Facilities Associated Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired meets the needs of its clients in a single location at 919 Walnut Street in downtown Philadelphia, a location conveniently reached by walking, car, or public transportation. Given the mobility limitations of some of our clients, our single location itself offers many advantages: it is easy to reach, on a major street, and near several of the best teaching hospitals in the city. The building provides an easy-to-access layout, with all of its features designed for persons with disabilities (such as an elevator that announces floor numbers). With 135,000 square feet, the building is spacious enough for ASB to provide all the services our clients need, and to handle many clients at once; and it provides for "one-stop shopping," enabling our clients to conveniently schedule their services, meetings, and appointments. In addition, because of our central location, we are more easily able to attract our cadre of over 200 trained volunteers. These dedicated individuals come from throughout the Delaware Valley to work, without charge, as Braille transcribers, professional readers, personal shoppers, escorts, office support staff, radio narrators, and in many other capacities. |
